Abstract | This study examined what factors are contributing to the performance in e-learning environment. Students' learning styles and their preferred communication methods were explored in order to determine the effectiveness on performance in e-learning. To assess their learning styles, Kolb's Learning-Style Inventory has been applied. Fifty-two students enrolling in an online MBA program and twenty-seven employees of a company enrolling in a training course were subjects of this study. Their performance was measured by individual assignment, group work, and final examination. Students were asked to rank their communication methods used in both online MBA and training course. The results illustrated that there was no significant relationship between student's learning style and performance in online course. Also, a significant relationship between electronic communication method and performance of online student was not shown. Online students did not prefer any certain electronic communication methods over others. In addition, gender did not affect the performance in online academic. Although the result showed non-significant relationship in most of the hypothesis tested, there was a significant relationship between learning mode and group work performance. Also active participation within a group leads to high performance in the group work. In order to confirm the result, the study should be repeated with larger number of sample. |
