Abstract | In this study, a methodology to morph Rule-based Expert Systems into Intelligent Agents is proposed. The study begins by describing the concepts of Expert System and Intelligent Agent, and brings out the similarities and differences between them. The Expert System of an insurance company, named Medicare Supplement Claim Evaluation Expert System, is chosen as an example to be morphed into an Intelligent Agent. The morphing is done by adding agency, mobility and intelligence dimensions to the system. Three kinds of agencies are added to the system: inform new ailments to the chief claims examiner, give explanation to the insured, check insurance policy date and send e-mail to the insured. Mobility is not considered. The learning capability is added to give more intelligence to the system than before. The system is analyzed and designed based on the agent-oriented paradigm, then the system is implemented. After implementation, Intelligent Agent - the resulting of morphing - , is compared with Expert System. The conclusion is that the Rulebased Expert System can be morphed into Intelligent Agent and it works better than the Expert System. It gives deeper explanation incorporating both 'why' and 'why not' explanation. The 'why not' explanation makes the system more robust and flexible. The system has the capability to learn although it only learns by rote. |
