AbstractThe current financial crisis that has shocked Thailand and caused the economy to tremble has at least slowed energy consumption and will, undoubtedly, have similar repercussions on energy demand and supply. This study analyses the impact of the decreasing investment in the power sector to the economy using input-output model. Power development plans before and after the financial crisis has been used to identify the changes of under-implementation power projects. This study focuses on analyzing the employment, output and income effects as a result of the changes in spending. A closed input-output model, which can capture the direct, indirect and induced impacts, is used to estimate employment, output and income multipliers for 27 sectors of Thailand economy. Results show that the total output, employment and income decrease due to the decreasing the projected power capacity in revised power development plan and changes in the spending apart to reduction. The study shows the negative impacts to the sectors that are related to installation, construction of power plants and gaining new business orders in the realization of the new projects.
