AbstractDistribution system is an integral part of the utility since the customer through this link utilizes the energy generated. Thus, there is a need to constantly improve the system and be prepared for the future so that the customer can avail of the benefits as well as the utility. The improvement helps to reduce the losses and improve the voltage profiles of the distribution system. In this thesis attempt has been made to study what benefit can be obtained if the existing system of 6.3 KV Sihanoukville distribution network is changed with 22 KV system along with change in the conductors. Also studied was the benefit of placing the capacitor at optimal location obtained through the RSLOCl.EXE and RDLFl.EXE. It was found that by changing the operational voltage of the system voltage profile in the system is better with marked reduction in losses which thus prepares the utility for fu1ther addition of loads in the years to come. Similarly, by placing the capacitors at optimal locations the losses in the system can be further reduced providing additional benefits.
