Abstract | This study investigates the impact of cross-cultural values and cultural adaptability of expatriates on the organization performance. A survey was used to collect data from 180 Chinese expatriates and Thai co-workers on differences in cross-cultural distance and cultural adaptability and their impact on organization performance. The cultural values between Chinese expatriates and Thai co-workers are significantly different in the dimensions of obedience and equality. Cultural adaptability emphasizes open mindedness. Chinese expatriates are more concerned with the level of organization performance goals which are financial performance, productivity, innovation, and customer complaints. The findings show that success, variety, social order, tradition in cross-cultural values have significant relationship to firm performance and also open mindedness, personal values and judgment in cultural adaptability have significant relationship to firm performance. A practical implication of the study is to improve desired or expected relationship between Chinese expatriates and Thai co workers. A study can be used as new strategies for the Chinese expatriates and Thai co-workers to cooperate and maximize organization performance for management practices in a new environment. This paper identifies the factors which introduce a new perspective into the cross-cultural study between Thai and Chinese which lead the companies to gain more success on organization performance in multinational companies. The results could benefit organizations by helping them recognize how their employees from diverse cultural backgrounds interact. |
