AbstractVarious available laboratory test results, field in-situ test results and borehole logging records from sixty five boreholes made at the site of Tha Dan Dam, where a 95 m high Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Dam is to be built, were collected and reviewed. The results were compiled to provide statistical summaiy of the material properties. Empirical correlations were used to estimate design value of modulus of deformation of the rock mass. Different types of sectional maps were drawn along the dam axis on borehole sections to classify the foundation rock into different layers for the purpose of estimating rock mass properties for fmiher analysis. Stress-def01mation analysis was carried out using the finite element software SIGMA/W with different loading cases of the dam. Comparing the stress distribution in the foundation rock with the bearing capacity and other rock properties, the rock mass at the site was found to be suitable for the construction of the RCC dam.
