Abstract | The Construction Industry is under pressure to reduce project delivery times and costs despite increased unce1tainties, ambiguities and complexities that surround today's projects. Whereas the traditional project management tools provide useful support, their underlying models often seem to bear little relation to actual projects. The traditional approaches tend to assume that if each element of the project can be understood then the whole project may be controlled. As a matter of fact, the interrelationship between the project components are more complex than are suggested by the traditional work breakdown structure of project network. An alternative view of projects' behavior is offered by System Dynamics which concentrates on the whole project. This research investigates the impacts of large scale projects' dynamic behavior on an organizational performance with respect to productivity and finance. A case study of Echo West Int'l, a Pakistan based multi-national organization, is conducted as a prototype model. Policies have been formed for an improved and sustainable performance. The future research using the model within and beyond its current limits can facilitate the development of new knowledge of project dynamics and the implementation of that knowledge in project management practice. |
