Abstract | Managing the planning and implementation of international technology transfer is a difficult task. Many cases of failures are reported in the literature. This research aims at presenting a normative framework which elaborates upon the various steps that should be followed to ensure successful technology transfer. The framework prescribes the adoption of eight different stages namely: needs identification stage; top management commitment development stage; climate creation stage; potential technology supplier searching stage; technology offer evaluation stage; mechanism selection stage; negotiation and agreement stage; and implementation stage. The framework is used to develop three case studies, two cases in Nepal and one case in Thailand. Based on the findings, the usefulness of the proposed framework in planning and implementing technology transfer is established. Guidelines for ensuring successful technology transfer are also proposed. |
