AbstractElectricity is a key input for developing the national economy and living standard of the people. Understanding the vital role of electricity in the industrialisation process, Vietnamese Government is trying to widen the national electricity grid over the country. In 1995, 500kV transmission was built connected most parts of the country with the national electricity grid. However, there are many remote regions such as borders, high mountains or islands that the extension of the state electricity grid will be very expensive. The lack of electric power is a major obstacle for those regions development. In those areas, wind energy is considered as one of substitution to overcome their problems. Vietnam with its many islands and 3000 km coast line, is acknowledged to have good potential for wind energy, using wind energy also contributes to economise the natural resources even in the regions that have national electricity grid. For a considerable length of time, Vietnam has been engaged in wind energy development activities. Due to many reasons, most of such programs are not yet brought to a commercial scale in the nation. Without application, those accumulated experiences seem to be meaningless. The main purpose of the research is conducted the first step of commercialisation process : understanding and evaluating the market. For this purpose, interview and in-desk research were taken. In the end, after assessing the market, some conclusions were drawn based on interviews and recommendations were made.
