Abstract | Globalization has brought in a new breed of organizations which compete on the basis of superior technology, quality of products and services in order to achieve a competitive advantage. For multinational corporations in the US, Europe and Asia, achieving global competitiveness continues to present major problems. To cope with the rapidly changing global business environment, companies continuously apply changes to either adapt to the new trends and developments in the industry or to sustain its leadership role. This competitive positioning are ensured through organizational changes which may vary in form, nature and scope. The most popular changes for the past two decades are corporate restructuring, revitalization, or tum-around strategies. It is the aim of this research to find out how a European multinational company such as Philips Electronics N.V. coped with global competition, regained and sustained profitability and developed a new culture through a change program called Operation Centurion. |
