AbstractThis study aims to investigate the degree to which the Big Five personality traits, self efficacy and social support influence social entrepreneurial intention and how gender differences moderate the relationship among the associated variables. To collect data, business students from two public universities of Bangladesh were surveyed using questionnaires yielding a total sample of 172 male and 123 female students. Hypotheses were formulated to predict the influence of the Big Five personality traits, self-efficacy and social support on social entrepreneurial intention and were tested using correlation analysis, hierarchical regression and analysis of variance. Findings of this study reveal that extraversion, emotional stability and social support significantly influence social entrepreneurial intention for the total sample. For men, emotional stability and social support were significant determinants while for women, extraversion, self-efficacy together with social support contributed to their intent to be social entrepreneur. Result of this study will help policy makers and academic scholars of Bangladesh to understand how personality aspects and social support influence business students in their intention process to become social entrepreneur. The study is one of the very few in social entrepreneurship literature to investigate the impact of gender differences on social entrepreneurial intention and first one in the Bangladeshi context.
