AbstractChina's potential sufficient wind power is estimated at 1.6 billion kW of which 160 million can be utilized. This proves that China has rich resources of wind power mainly distributed along the southeastern coasts and on the islands there, which are called the major wind power districts. Inner-Mongolia and northern Gansu Province and Xinjiang are the second wind power districts; Heilongjiang Province and eastern Jilin, and the Liaodong Peninsular coasts are also rich in wind power resources. China has a long history of wind power utilization. Beginning in the fifties, one effort after another was made for wind power utilization. The steps were fmiher quickened at the end of the seventies. Especially in those remote districts such as pastoral, nomadic pastures or coastal fishing areas, where there is no easy access to power line networks, but there is an abundance of wind power. Efforts must be made to set up wind power generation for household use as well as for production. Preliminary statistics show that almost one hundreds wind turbine generators of various types have been made with capacities ranging form several decade watts to 200 kM. Across the country there are some several research institutes and production firms working on wind power generation with more than 2000 technical employees. Recent years have seen a steady increase in the number of model wind power stations for power generation or for experiments. China already set up several wind farms, they set a good example in wind power machine utilization, having done a rich harvest of experimental results as a good foundation for further development of wind power machines. Present yearly production of wind power generators amounts to some 20,000, more than 95% of them are of SOW and lOOW machines, with 60% sold in Inner-Mongolia, the rest sold in Qinghai, Xinjiang and Gansu. With its relatively simple technique, small scale investments distributed over many localities, to be developed step by step in a relatively sho1i period of construction as its advantages, wind energy development will play major role in districts where sho1iage of electricity is sharply felt. This research presented a general introduction about the developing process of wind energy in China in past 40 years, present status and perspective in future. It described the wind resource, Chinese wind power machine industry, manufacturing enterprises, r5esearch unit, government energy policy, as well a organizing and managing mechanism. Also the existing main problem were analysis and introduced from technical performance, environment protection, marketing strategy, output of the production to the application state and demand of the market. Finally, the developing tentative plan of Chinese wind power machine industry in the next period was given out. Through analysis and description from different aspects, this paper presented a rather clear and integral overall blueprint.
