AbstractOperation and performance of international joint-ventures depend upon how effectively partners work together. Cross-cultural factors play a major role in such partnerships. This study makes an attempt to understand the cross-cultural factors in Dutch and French jointventures with Vietnamese paiiners in Ho-Chi-Minh city Vietnam. By using qualitative and quantitative tools, the study has made an attempt to find out cultural differences among Dutch, French and Vietnamese managers. The cultural differences are found in terms of characteristics, knowledge and behavior of the managers who are in the Cross-cultural environment of the joint-ventures. Based on research data which is collected in Ho-Chi-Minh city Vietnam and Friesland Dairy Food Co. Ltd. in The Netherlands, the study points out that Vietnamese managers are culturally different from the expatriate managers-Dutch and French in terms of power sharing, communication, cultural orientation, openness, and emphasis on building relationship. These differences can lead to problems in the operation and the performance of the joint ventures. The potential problems and recommendations are also suggested based on the differences in the culture.
