AbstractFor the last two decades, more than one hundred developing countries faced financial crisis. It also spread to East Asian economies. Similar crisis beset Thailand also. Thailand began the year with a slowdown of the economy. Many economic indicators such as disappointing export growth and high culTent account deficit signaled the poor performance of Thai economy. The trouble in the economy was ignited by the finance sector. This crisis appeared obviously after the flotation of the baht. Heavy foreign debt and rapid growth of nonperforming loans of financial institutions as well as political instability resulted in the decline of foreign investors' confidence to the culTency which led to foreign capital outflows. This has paved the way to problems of liquidity and eventually financial crisis. With these severe economic problems, this research discusses how the crisis occulTed and what the root causes and impacts of problems, particularly focus on the problems in finance companies. Recommendations on the IMF's conditions were provided in both the negative and positive effects. It also provides other recommendations of the suitable course of actions for Thailand in the future.
