AbstractFor network planning and operation purposes it is very important to know the call holding times. The international telephone exchanges normally provide two types of measurement data useful for call holding time studies, charging data recording and traffic measurement on route. The international telephone calls are charged based on the lengths of the call holding times. Based on real measurement results of international traffic in this research work various traffic parameters, their time dependencies, and related subscriber behavior have been studied. The measured call holding times are studied against the assumption that call holding times are exponentially distributed. The traffic measurement on route for both call attempts and answered calls are compared. The hourly call intensities of different weekdays are compared. The influence of call charging rate on call intensity, mean holding time and conversation traffic is demonstrated. Beside the effect of time difference is studied between countries of outgoing calls from Thailand.
