Abstract | In order to formulate mechanization strategy, it is necessary to assess the existing status of mechanization. As a first step, an inventory of existing farm power and machinery must be prepared to formulate a mechanization strategy. This study was aimed at carrying out such a survey in Sleman Regency, Yogyakaita, Indonesia. The main objective of this research was to obtain inventory and mapping of agricultural machinery with GIS application. Through questionnaire, primary data were collected from randomly selected samples. The farmers were also personally interviewed. The secondary data were collected from the published literature by the government agencies, universities and international organizations. The study revealed that farm mechanization seems to be developed in Sleman Regency, however, more attention is needed for its application. Maps, produced by Arc/Info software, showed the inventory and utilization of agricultural machinery and the density of tractors population among the districts. Sleman Regency can be classified as an intermediate area from the agricultural mechanization point of view. It means that the farm mechanization program in this area can only be developed by subsidy and credit facilities. More intensive extension work is required. A selective mechanization is another option for this area. |
