AbstractA Thai power tiller was modified to install a ' PTO shaft in order to have a direct coupling of power transmission from engine to the farm equipment. A set of clutch was installed between the engine and PTO drive shaft. The power performance test was conducted to evaluate the PTO power, engine power, belt slip, and power transmission efficiency of PTO system. The engine and PTO shaft were connected to an electric dynamometer. Engine and PTO shaft were loaded at twelve different loading speeds of engine for three different throttle settings i.e. 2400, 2200, and 2000 rpm. At 2400 rpm throttle setting, the engine could develop the maximum torque of 1.89 kg-m at 2200 rpm but the maximum power of 4.42 kW was recorded at engine speed of 2250 rpm. PTO could provide the maximum torque of 4.46 kg-m at the speed of 930 rpm and the maximum power of 4.33 kW at 2200 rpm of engine. The modified PTO drive shaft was also tested by directly coupling with a centrifugal pump. The maximum flow rate of water was 0.5 m3 /min at 0.95 m suction head, when the speed was 1000 rpm with a maximum efficiency of 60 %. The fuel consumption was 0.63 l/h.
