AbstractConstruction project documents are the main media for communication between various parties on construction projects. The documented information is not only used for support decision making, problem solving, and claim management but also used for historical records to facilitate construction innovations and improvements. CmTently construction documents are mainly paper-based with manual collection, which cause unorganized, unavailable, and lost of information. Using the emerged Information Technologies (IT) a prototype for construction document management is proposed. Many advanced computer technologies are studied to bring promising improvements to construction project documentation. The objective of the prototyping is to enhance the use of computer technologies in order to provide accurate, pertinent, and timely information. The presented study describes a prototype for a web-based construction documentation system. The system consists of a database application and a web-database application. The database application of the system is developed on Microsoft Access 97 then is integrated with web sites. This application provides an organizational format to store and access construction documents such as daily reports, change orders, request for information, photo records, safety notices, cost records, and progress reports. The web-database application of the system allows users to document and retrieve project info1mation such as change order and cost record in the form of integrated text, image, sound, and videos through WWW from remote sites. The posted documents are sent to keep in the database application in the head office same as the retrieved information, which is sent from the database application to display on web pages.
