AbstractCNC machine are now widely used in manufacturing system because of their clear advantage over conventional machines in flexibility, less numbers of workpiece set-up requirements, and better quality. Today's machine tools are extremely flexible and often manufactured specific to the customer's needs. The immense variety of application for machine tools and a growing number of newly developed manufacturing technologies also requires flexible, easy to adapt numerical control systems. Presently, CNC control adjustment to a specific machine tool is done by the machine tool builder through a larger number of parameter setting and logic diagrams. Maintenance and modification of functionality are often impossible or only possible in a very difficult manner and only by the control vendor himself. The main objective of this study is to develop a CNC control with open architecture. This study will concentrate on the logic design. The PLC algoritluns and require 1/0 will be designed for a 3 axis CNC milling machine with the option to include on automatic tool change (ATC).
