AbstractThis research considers the analytical solution for stresses and displacements at any point within a homogeneous solid sphere for an axisymmetric uniformly distributed load. Finite element solution for the same problem is also considered and it is compared with the analytical solution. Governing equations for stress and displacement solutions under axisymmetric loading for a solid sphere whose elastic properties are varying along its radius is formulated. Finite element solution for stresses and displacements within a solid sphere, whose elastic properties are changing along its radius due to uniformly distributed axisymmetric load is also considered. The analytical solution was compared with finite element solution. It was observed that the results are very much similar for angles away from the pole and a slight deviation of the two results closer to the pole. The results for the deviation is discussed and improvement is suggested so that the two results are similar even closer to the pole.
