AbstractBOT projects have many inherent risks involved due to the nature of their structure. There are more parties involved and more phases are present than a conventional construction project. The objectives of each party in a BOT project are rarely matching. This difference in the objectives of parties leads to the conflict of interest. That is one of the root causes of risks in BOT projects. Macroeconomic, political and legal conditions of the country also affect the BOT projects affecting the severity of risks. The determination of such risks thus become a very important task in the planning and development stage of BOT project. The risks of BOT projects in power and transportation sectors of Pakistan have been identified in this thesis from interviews of the officials involved in these projects. The identified risks have been analyzed for their relative importance by using Analytical Hierarchy Process for the parties involved in the projects separately for power and transportation projects. From the identified risks, some critical problems of BOT projects in Pakistan have been indicated. Some recommendations have also been given to manage the critical risks for the success of these projects in Pakistan.
