Abstract | Large investments often remain idle due to very poor utilisation of resources. A better understanding of the nature of construction resources management accompanied with the use of IT tools is very important for firms to run their services effectively. This study focuses on construction resources management practices and circumstances of IT tools application at five construction contractor firms in Bangkok. The results of this study support the view that resources management procedures are reasonably used and Bangkok construction sector has entered the information technology area. However, there are many limitations with the current use of IT due to a recession in construction industry. It is still possible for firms to exist and compete with existing IT technology. This study concludes that the combined efforts from top management, IT department as well as functional departments are required to exploit the potential of IT in resource management. In addition, the formulation of IT performance grid will help management to decide which components are essential and guidance on how they should treat each component. |
