AbstractThe use of Information technology for competitive advantage is significant for the long-term survival, competitiveness, and profitability of the organization. This represents one of the most important recent issues in the organizational use of information technology. Sustainability of competitive advantage may be achieved by leveraging unique firm attributes with information technology to realize long term performance gains. Sustainability is as a function of the durabilities of a gap in capabilities that separates a company from its competitors. This research review of sustainability was conducted that resulted in the development of factors effecting sustainable competitive advantage. These factors can be divided into three sets: environmental factors, foundation factors, action strategies with which a model is established to analyze the largest IT company in China - IBM China. The sustainability of information technology based model shows the ability of a firm to leverage its environmental and foundation factors through effective IS strategies and actions should inhibit competitor response and subsequently nurture sustainability. The results obtained from the analysis state that the sustainibility of IT-based competitive advantage should fit with the "Information Technology Based Competitive Advantage Model''. This a basic prerequisite to gain sustainability of info1mation technology based competitive advantage, but the IBM China should still need to be accustom to the changing environmental and technological factors.
