Abstract | During the past few years, MC-CDMA scheme based on CDMA and OFDM has gained considerable research interest. Basically, this scheme is made up of several narrowband orthogonal subcarriers, each of which conveys a chip of a spread data bit. After the coherent detection at each subcarrier, the outputs from all the channels are combined and compared with the threshold level of zero. BER performance of this system as a function of number of active users and Eb/No values is simulated for the downlink transmission using flat Rayleigh fading channel with negligible Doppler shift at each subcarrier. Two different combining methods are considered. MMSEC is favored for its high performance and EGC for its simplicity. WH codes of spreading gain 32 and 8 are employed in the simulation. Turbo codes of rate Yz is then introduced to this system and simulation is carried out to evaluate BER performance under the same channel conditions as in uncoded system. Using 32 subcarriers and MMSEC, a coding gain over 6dB is achieved at the threshold BER of 10-3 when compared to the uncoded case. |
