| Abstract | This study presents gap acceptance behaviors at a U-turn section in Bangkok. A
traffic data was collected at an intersection for six hours using video camera. A discrete
choice modeling was applied for predicting the gap acceptance probability. The logit model
was used for the probability function. Total thirteen factors were selected to evaluate the
effects for drivers' maneuver. The models were estimated for U-turn motorcycle, vehicle,
and all vehicles. This made it possible to quantify the characteristics for different type of
vehicles.
The result shows that all models had high goodness of fit. Waiting time, the number
of rejected gap, gap, speed, acceleration and queuing before arriving the head ofU-turn lane
have significant impacts on the probability of a given gap being accepted. The influence of
type of on-coming vehicle, driving lane of on-coming vehicle, existence of right turning
vehicle was significant in some cases but not in the other cases. Finally, a model was
proposed to estimate the gap acceptance probability. |
