AbstractEffective project evaluation necessitates incorporating many conflicting objectives of decision makers (DMs) into decision models. Goal programming (GP) is one of the popular and widely used multiciteria decision making (MCDM) method. Weighted goal programming, a solution approach of GP, was employed in getting solution with a priori preference articulation of the objectives. A multiple objective interactive approach developed by Benayoun et al., STEM method was followed to obtain satisfying solutions in an interactive manner. The difficulty in identifying and determining which objectives to be relaxed and by how much in STEM was made easier and logical by referring to the result obtained from weighted goal programming. Assimilation of criteria and their relative importance is a critical phase of any planning process especially when there are more than one decision maker. This has been achieved here with questionnaires and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Planning and operating electric power systems involve several inter-linked and complex tasks. A case study was conducted for Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to study an electrical system planning using interactive multiple objective approach as a decision aid tool. This study assisted DMs in evaluating generation expansion pla1ming from interactive multiobjective programming prospective. DMs were able to learn about the dynamics of problem by interaction in obtaining the solution. Lastly, it assisted DMs in identifying a portfolio of projects for commissioning.
