AbstractTwo generalizations of the cubic Ball curve have been made in the literature. They have been referred to as the Wang-Ball curve and the Said-Ball curve, respectively. From recent studies, these generalizations have been found to possess some advantages over the corresponding Bezier curve. As the Said-Ball tensor product surface has been well investigated, the present study focuses on the Wang-Ball tensor product surface, which is obtained simply by an extension of the Wang-Ball curve. The thesis first compares Bezier, Wang-Ball and Said-Ball curves with respect to their control polygons, then presents the definition and properties of the Wang-Ball tensor product surface. After that, a recursive algorithm, degree elevation and reduction schemes for the Wang-Ball surface are developed. A comparison of Bezier, Wang-Ball and Said-Ball tensor product surfaces is made with respect to their control points, and the relationships among the three kinds of surfaces of the same degree are established. In addition to the Wang-Ball tensor product surface, the rational Wang-Ball surface is also investigated and parallel results are obtained.
