AbstractThis study focuses on development of an expert system for production scheduling. The case under the study is shop-floorl , that assembles different types of televisions, of Viettronic Dong Da Company, Vietnam. The expert system is developed to meet the demand of the company. When the company wants to build several similar plants in different locations, the knowledge of running such a plant can not be distributed easily. The problem becomes more and more serious when the experts retire, leave the company or for any reason, they can not schedule directly. That moment, production system will get the trouble because nobody can replace them. Due to expert system, the nonexperts could solve specific problems with the skill and efficiency of human experts. The expert system provides useful information such as number of employees at each stage, necessary time of each stage to complete whole the batch, starting time of each stage among production cycle ... The expert system is rule-base expert system, whose knowledge representation is production rule. The system is developed by Borland C++ and CLIPS 6.0 expert system development tool that supports Forward Chaining Basis Inference Strategies.
