Abstract | Scheduling is an important aspect of production planning in semiconductor industries
because it effects the processing time. In the situation where there are high-mix and low
volume customers' demands, production re-planning is often required. If these plans can
be scheduled, processing time would be reduced resulting in productivity improvement.
This thesis is written based on a semiconductor case study - Semiconductor Venture
International Co., Ltd. As there is no planning tool in the case study, a planner might spend
too much time planning and human error might also occur. The objectives of this study are,
therefore, to develop a plaiming tool and to find the most suitable method in job scheduling
and sequencing for the factory.
The data is collected from the case-study factory. All machines in the factory are classified
into 3 cases based on three criteria: department, production process, and type of machine.
For each case, four methods of Giffer and Thomson algorithm are used for the scheduling
test: MWKR, SPT, L WKR, and RANDOM. The results are then compared by considering
overdue proportions and mean flow time of each case and each method.
The software is developed to use as a plaiming tool and the result shows that the most
suitable method for job scheduling is SPT method if the machines are classified based on
the production process. |
