AbstractIn this study we describe an approach for setting the Work In Process (WIP) inventory levels of products in a Con WIP production system using Factory Signature Curve (FSC). The approach starts by generating a reference FSC under the conditions and operating policy used by the factory. The FSC is then used to set an initial WIP level based on the target throughput that might meet the demand forecast. This WIP level setting is then tested using simulation model to verify that the resulted throughput is within the control limits of the target throughput. If not, the WIP level is increased or decreased by one and the process repeats until the throughput falls within the limits of the target throughput. The procedure is tested with hypothetical job shop for single product, two products and tlu-ee products cases.
