AbstractUsing piezocone to characterize engineering properties of clays (such as undrained shear strength, stress history, deformability and permeability) has been increasingly popular. Recently, four penetration tests with pore pressure (piezocone) and three dissipation tests were performed in soft clay deposit at Nong Ngu Hao site which is planed to be the Second International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. The similar tests were conducted at AIT campus site (Asian Institute of Technology). In these sites, both of field vane shear tests and Oedometer tests were also performed. Based on the results of the field and lab tests, the undrained shear strength Su, and over consolidation ratio OCR were correlated to the piezocone data. Furthermore, from dissipation tests, the horizontal coefficient of consolidation ch and horizontal coefficient of permeability kh were estimated using Teh and Houlsby theory.
