Abstract | Chemico-Pile, a deep soil stabilization method, is a relatively new introduction to civil construction. This method has been derived from the Deep Mixing Method, in which unslaked lime (CaO) is penetrated into the soft ground using a special casing. This is widely used as lime pile method now in Japan and as well as many other Asian countries. The present study was an attempt to observe the Chemico-Pile effect on soft Nong Ngo Hao clay and simulation of the actual field condition by using FEM program and comparison between the predicted value and actual field data. The results show that the Chemico-Pile has improved the soft clay. The water content, void ratio, and compressibility ratio decreased significantly. The undrained shear strength decreased in the first 30 days of curing period due to disturbance and then increased with time. The FEM results using PLAXIS software show that the settlement and lateral deformation values agreed with the field data though initially the settlement values were overpredicted. The excess pore pressure values were slightly underpredicted after the loading was completed. The comparison between the predicted treated and untreated settlment, lateral dofrmation and excess pore pressure were made. The results show that the reduction of settlement and lateral deformation is significant due to the Chemico-Pile. |
