Abstract | Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) has become a focus of manufacturing industrial technology since the 1980's. CIM is a methodology used in organizing, managing and running the enterprise's production. In China, since 1986, the speed of Computer Integrated Manufacturing System(CIMS) development implementation has been very fast. More than 100 companies are implementing CIMS and most manufacturers of industrial countries recognize that CIM is an evolution of factory automation, and take CIM as a main countermeasure to reindustrialization. In this research, Beijing No.I Machine Tool Plant (BYJC), Shenyang Blower Works, Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Corporation (CAC), Huabao Air Conditioner Factory (HB), and Shanghai No.2 Textile Machinery Ltd. (STTMW) were selected as the case studies. They have adopted CIMS quite extensively. The CIMS implementation has helped raise the efficiency of these enterprises by greatly reducing the design time, the manufacturing time, delivery period of products and quality costs. |
