Abstract | This research study tries to explore the business strategies of the foreign joint ventures in the manufacturing sector of Myanmar economy with special reference to Myanmar-Sampoema Tobacco Company Limited. The study was conducted by reviewing the relevant literature, surveying 18 JVCs by questionnaire and doing an in-depth study of Myanmar-Sampoerna Tobacco Co. Ltd. and finally drawing conclusions after analyzing the data thus obtained. The results of the study reveal that though the government's incentives for foreign investment are attractive, the number of foreign firms entering Myanmar market is still small due to poor infrastructure and unstable political condition of the country. But it is found that the business strategies of the existing joint ventures are sound and working well. Except some minor ones, they did not have any serious problems regarding entry into Myanmar market, manufacturing and marketing of the products. Based on the findings of the research study, some recommendations have been made for the foreign joint ventures and the Myanmar government for successful functioning of the JV Cs in Myanmar. |
