Abstract | During this last three years, firms running businesses without computer facilities have seemed antiquated. Information technology, of which computers comprise one of two basic foundations, has become a must in the commercial world. The Internet is the second basic foundation. In Thailand, the Internet services were regulated by CAT, a state owned company responsible for all international telecommunications services. Due to the public complaining about high Internet fees in Thailand, this research study attempts to find out what the causes of the high prices and the way for CAT to develop its services. The survey and interviews showed that the Internet service business is a high profitable business. The current service rates can be reduced if the Internet Service Providers expand their pay back period. The CAT can replace the regulatory rules by setting up their own Internet Service Provider to compete in the open market. This solution may counter their image that they are an inefficient monopoly and it would help CAT prepare themselves for the further liberalization which government policy wants for CAT as one competitor in telecommunication market. In addition, the CAT's Internet service can provide value added for its current data communications services, in order to retain current users and gain more efficiency in utilization of existing resources. |
