Abstract | Domestic market of Thailand for pharmaceutical products has become highly competitive and demanding. People are becoming more conscious about their health care products and government of Thailand has rightly put lot of weightage to the production process of drugs. All government hospitals in Thailand are now required to buy drugs from GMP certified pharmaceutical companies. Government is also promptly this concept to other private hospitals and health care institutes. Hence, in the present context, it is necessary for all drug manufacturers in Thailand to understand GMP standards. In this research study, Thai pharmaceutical market, suitability of GMP implementation process, and benefits of GMP are reviewed. After that with the helpful of in-depth case study, issues related to GMP implementation process in local context are investigated. For this purpose, Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) is selected, as if is the largest local pharmaceutical company Thailand with full range of medicinal products. Issues like driving forces for GMP implementation, improvement of performance due to GMP implementation /registration, implementation process, problem encountered during implementation process are investigated systematically. At the end, from the experience of this company, necessary recommendations are made for successful implementation of GMP in non-certified companies. |
