Abstract | Tourism has become a major economic force in many countries and regions throughout the world. It is a rising industry in China. The governments in Yunnan Province, P.R. China promote nature tourism and have been developing tourism as a leading industry. Rapid tourism and business travel expansion, luck of hotels, high return and the government investment priority shifting from east coast area to middle and west area of China, created a new investment environment and opportunities for hotel industry. Hotel chains move aggressively in China. The pace of hotel development in China's major cities and resort destinations continues unabated, driven by high yields for developers when the mix of market circumstances is favorable. In Yunnan, what is the real market situation? Are more hotels needed? Which factors will affect hotel investment? What kinds hotels are suitable for the market in different place? Where are the best places to do hotel business? What is the impacts of technology when investing in hotel business? This research used the questionnaire for information of purpose of travel and importance of high-tech in hotel business and key informant interviewing. SWOT analysis, statistical methods are employed to forecasts and compare of different market characteristics between Kunming and Lijiang. The results are clear that hotel industry has great opportunities in Yunnan China. However, the situations are different between Kunming and Lijiang, considering travel purpose, hotel preference, high-tech needs and room supply. The findings of this research suggest that strategies for hotel investment in Kunming and Lijiang should match the circumstances, in terms of location, hotel scale, style, standard, and technology. The involving of America Natural Convention to Lijiang area will affect further development of Lijiang and it may accelerate the developing speed. Thus hotel investors should focus on whole environment, target segment as well as certain big factors. |
