Abstract | Constant rate of strain consolidation tests with vertical and radial drainages were performed to investigate the consolidation characteristics in both directions of soft Bangkok clay such as coefficient of consolidation ( c ), coefficient of permeability (k), and preconsolidation pressure ( crp ' ). Twenty (20) CRS-V tests were performed at strain rate of 3 .3 x 10-6 Is on the soft Bangkok clay at depths of 4 m to 19 m to compared with oedometer test data. Fourteen (14) CRS-R tests were conducted with strain rate of 2.2 x 1 o-6 Is on the same samples to compare with consolidation tests with vertical drainage. From the experimental investigation, the results show that good agreement between the constant rate of strain consolidation tests with vertical drainage and the oedometer tests in term of compression curves, preconsolidation pressure, coefficient of consolidation as well the coefficient of permeability. The compression curves of constant rate of strain consolidation tests with vertical drainage and horizontal drainage are very similar for soil samples taken from the same depth and location, indicating the compression curve is independent of drainage direction. The ratio of khlkv for soft Bangkok clay determining from CRS tests is about 2.2. The ratio of c1/cv for soft Bangkok clay is approximately 2, indicating soft Bangkok clay exhibits some anisotropy. |
