AbstractThis study attempts to identify the capital structure decision making practices pursued by the listed Thai manufacturing companies. The study is based on the questionnaire survey and the information published by the listed companies listed in the stock exchange of Thailand (SET). The study has been carried out in three specific dimensions to examine capital structure practices in this fast growing economy: Questionnaire Survey with Chief Financial Officers, Industry-wise analysis, and Aggregate time series analysis. There are many theoretical and empirical studies which have reviewed the various aspects of corporate capital structure. However, to the best of my knowledge, no study has been carried out in Thai perspectives so far. How do Thai managers view capital structure theory and how is it relevant to their operation? How empirical analysis of capital structure models and hypothesis developed by the academicians are consistent in Thai context. How does capital structure differ from one industry or business to another in Thailand? How do Thai companies finance their growth? How have corporate capital structure and financing patterns in Thailand changed in the first half of 1990s? What are different financing strategies of different industry sectors of Thailand? A modest attempt has been made to provide answers to these and other related questions in this study.
