AbstractThe network technology has been developed rapidly in this decade and continuously being transferred to the business world. Requiring long distance communication linkage for coordination of activities in dispersed operations, the top management of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) recognizes the importance of this technology for its competitive advantage. This study addresses assessment methodology of network technology, implications of methodology to PTT, draws conclusions and offers recommendations for enhancement of utilization of network technology. The assessment of technology utilization allows identification of appropriate factors for use as evaluation criteria. The results of assessment are used for comparison in order to gain insight into the existing capabilities of PTT in using network technology and to make recommendation for improvement of those capabilities within the technology component framework. The study has found that upgrading network technology enhances its users capabilities, helps management to achieve corporate goals and reduces work duplication and work load of technical staff. Moreover, this study shows that PTT has better communication network than other companies under study. However the ability to innovate, to reduce backlog and to facilitate communication have yet to be developed. Two development programs are recommended: user's development programs for monitoring and evaluation of technical development and idea stimulation; and technical staff development program for application of filtering system and training.
