Abstract | The global trend of the amount of solid waste generated has increased every year. Most of the waste was currently dumped or disposed of on some of the lands. The open dumpsite is commonly used as disposal to manage MSW in Thailand. Thailand municipalities had been collected and managed by the individual household. These wastes disposed of together with waste from the nearby areas. Organic waste can rapidly decompose than other waste i.e., plastic, textile, metal, and glass. Plastic wastes are collected in the land and size reducing by the physical, chemical, and biological reaction. This study aimed to analyze the compositions of municipal solid waste (MSW) in the dumpsite in particle portion of plastic waste in different interval depths. The plastic waste was conducted to characterize and classify based on the resin codes and size of the plastic, and also develop material flow analysis in the dumpsite. Moreover, this study investigated plastic migration by microplastic in leachate runoff at wet and dry seasons. Open dumpsite affects the surrounding communities, which cannot be denied. In addition, a survey of the impacts expected to be received within 5 meters from the dumpsite. The results of the various studies, that plastic waste is the majority composition when the organic fully degraded. Most excavated waste is single-layer packaging namely Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) with unbranded and various sizes. Multilayer packaging has become interesting because ensures hygienic quality to food products with the size of 150 mm. Furthermore, the most top brands are large size company and MNCs. The concentration of microplastic in the leachate at the wet period was higher than the dry period, and detected fiber form in both seasons which the majority size is 1-5 mm. Methane gas emission calculated by IPCC method was 35.332 Gg/year during the year 2020 and will reach a maximum in 2026, and reduce that calculated by the Land GEM model. The neighbors within 5 km are affected to varying degrees from dumpsite impact and they understand the benefits of dumpsite mining for RDF production. |
