AbstractThe study aims at the estimation of coast lines, water surface areas and water volumes of the Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia with respect to the seasonal change. JERS-1 SAR data were mainly used together with many other satellite data such as JERS-1 VNIR, ERS-1 SAR, LAlTDSAT TM, NOAA/ AVHRR etc. as well as topographic maps and hydrological records. It was successful to obtain the coast lines at the maximum and minimum water level and to interpolate the intermediate water level with the partial coast lines obtained froin JERS-1 SAR and ERS-1 Data at different water level. It was found that only SAR data were possible to detect the coastlines at flood season, because water surface or boundary is not visible in optical image due to the submerged trees in flood season. The results obtained from the study would be very useful for water use planning and flood management of the Tonle Sap Lake.
