AbstractIncreasing competition, decreasing prices of mobile phones and new developments in telecommunications technology are among many of the reasons that why cellular phone industry is experiencing unprecedented and phenomenal growth. This growth in the mobile phone industry is offering many oppo1iunities to both traditional (fix-line telecommunication companies i.e. British Telecom) and non traditional (purely cellular phone operators i.e. Vodaphone) cellular phone companies. Due to worldwide growth in the mobile phone industry, market opportunities are not confined to domestic markets for the telecommunication companies. These companies, too, are going global. Pakistan is one of the countries which is experiencing growth (due to shift towards consumer market), offering market opp01iunities to international telecoms. By virtue of its nature, the Pakistan mobile phone industry is attractive for both cellular network operators (BT) and cellular equipment manufacturers (N01iel). However, despite having growth prospects in Pakistan's mobile phone industry, the fundamental chore of these telecoms, is to carefully craft an appropriate market entry strategies to enter in this market; given the fact that (a) there is a shift in target market for mobile phone users from higher end to mass market and (b) there are already three competitors present in this market to capitalize on this growth.
