AbstractThe SW proposed-pit of Mae Moh Mine (SW-PIT) has been planned to be excavated in late 2001, under the Mae Moh Mine extension projected of power plant. The purpose of this study is to re-evaluated on stability of SW-PIT after there was a geotechnical investigation in the year 1994. The stratigraphy of western part of SW-PIT, of unfavorable geological structure was study because it trend to cause the problem on slope stability due to the lesson learn from recent excavation, NE-PIT. Available data concerning the geotechnical criteria for evaluation were collected. Multipass direct shear tests of green clay were performed to determine the residual shear strength. The potential of slope failures and their failure mode were identified by boreholes and cross-section. The stability of slope were evaluated in terms of factor of safety by using PC-SLOPE program. Results obtained indicated that only western wall is susceptible to slope failure if saturated. There is approximately 2.7 million m3 of material involved.
