Abstract | It is essential that the information systems adapt to the requirements of organizations according to business environment changes. Evolution and maintenance of the system are two major forces to contend with during the software life cycle. Object-oriented software is easier to evolve than procedural software, but it is still hard to adapt and maintain. Adaptive programming, an extension of object-oriented programming, offers new technique to model real world problems. The core idea of adaptive programming is the separation of program behaviors from class structure by applying the Demeter method. The Demeter tool supports the automatic implementation of adaptive software by customizing class structure and program behavior. Adaptive software engineering has many advantages over traditional object-oriented software engineering in the development of information systems such as adaptability, reusability and maintainability. The present study has demonstrated the advantages of adaptive programming by developing various information systems within the context of the Demeter method and tool. The Demeter method and tool reduce the amount of time devoted to actual coding and debugging, and allow designers to redesign the parts of packages with very little effort. By using adaptive software engineering, designers can implement complex information systems productively and flexibly. |
