AbstractThe extensive applications of Knowledge-based systems (KBS) in developed countries have been proved to have many benefits. However, in many developing countries, corporations are still lacking of knowledge of how to develop KBS. This requires before everything else identifying different tasks and knowledge for each management level to develop KBS. Moreover, management issues of developing KBS are scarcely addressed in AI literature. There is a need to integrate management technology into the development process of KBS. This study identifies the different tasks of each management level for developing KBS in corporate environment. Different kinds of knowledge that are necessary for performing those tasks are identified in detail. A consultant system is proposed to help the decision making process for each management level to develop KBS. A prototype of part of the proposed system is developed and implemented. It shows the design methods and serves as the basis for the further development of the system.
