AbstractTechnology transfer (TT) through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a critical factor affecting a host developing country's economic development. Increasingly, some developing country firms have gained the potential to become efficient instruments for promoting economic and technological co-operation and for acquiring, adapting available technologies. The sources for developing countries to acquire technology have thus been diversified. China is a High Technology Developing Country (HTDC). Thailand is a typical Ordinary Developing Country (ODC). Compared to China, Thailand, as a whole, is technologically less developed. N01mally technology is transferred from technologically advanced countries to less advanced countries. However, in the case of some Thai firms, it is possible to see them facilitating technology transfer to China. This research focuses on the role or ODC companies that facilitate technology transfer to HTDC firm. Based on the. literature review, an analytical framework that outlines motivations for the transfer, and possible cooperation model is developed. This is illustrated through two case studies. Based on the findings, some conclusions on ODC to HTDC technology transfer are made.
