AbstractWorking capital management is of paramount importance to the successful and sustainable business enterprise. This study mainly aims at examining the various aspects of working capital management in CIC Group of Companies. Its specific objectives are ; (J) to assess the risk-return analysis of working capital position; (2) to assess the nature and extent of short term liquidity position;(3) to determine the structure and utilization of worldng capital; and (4) to estimate transactions demand of working capital. For the purpose of the study, the necessary data on worldng capital and other related variables were collected from financial statements and interviews . This study used variety of financial ratios and statistical procedures to accomplish the objectives. As far as results are concerned, some of the selected enterprises have been achieving tradeoff between risk and return by following moderate approach while others have followed an aggressive approach. Consequently, liquidity position is also positive and negative according to the respective worldng capital approach followed. Those who followed an aggressive approach have paid lower interest than the others. With respect to the share of current asset components, major share was represented by the inventory, followed by receivable and cash in the total assets as well as in the current assets. The utilization of inventory has been observed least efficient in all enterprises except for !ta/polo. The pooled regression results have indicated that the desired level of working capital and its components of CIC is a function of sales. Therefore cost of holding of worldng capital is not significant.
