Abstract | Multipoint communication is the efficient way of information transferral in view of message throughput. Single-hop star WDM network is an interesting alternative among WDM networks that can support multipoint communications. Currently, there are ongoing developments on communication protocols for multipoint communications in single-hop star WDM network. In this work, protocol I and protocol II, one concerns no transceiver-tuning latency and another one concerns transceiver-tuning latency, are modified from various protocols in order to support multipoint communications with the use of multiple receivers in the network. They use a control channel for contention-based request process. Successful request is the input to the data transmission slot allocation process. The allocation algorithm that can be used for both protocols is presented. The influence on the capacity of multiple receivers significantly enhance traffic performance of network implementing both protocols under multipoint communications. In networks implementing both protocols, throughput depends on the input to the allocation process. At high request rate, compared with number of minislots in a control slot, where the successful request rate is decreased network throughput is also decreased. Conclusively, in networks implementing protocol II where allocation schedule is used, throughput of the network remains almost constant at high input load to allocation process. It is an advantage over protocol I. |
