Abstract | The one-dimensional consolidation of the elastic and inelastic clays under rectangular cyclic loadings is approximated by using forward time centered space (FJ'CS) scheme of finite difference method based on the validity of Terzaghi's one-dimensional consolidation theory of instantaneously applied constant loading. The results of finite difference method for the constant load is followed by the superposition principle in order to get the rate of settlement under cyclic loading. The analytical solutions of Baligh and Levadoux (1978) are used to verify the accuracy of the presented method. This comparison shows the accuracy of the presented method. The effect of frequency is considered for both OC and NC clays which are subjected to cyclic loadings in this research. |
